Conversation With A Syrian Man
Recently, I met a Syrian man named Yaseen. He didn't speak English well, but he did speak Arabic even though Kurdish is his main language. I asked if I could visit him, and he agreed, so I did this past Saturday. He has 3 boys and 3 girls and has been in the US for almost 10 years. We discussed family & the Middle East, during which he mentioned Islam a few times, so I used that as a bridge to tell him that I studied the Quran and compared it to the previous heavenly books found in the Bible. I told him that I found more similarities than differences. But I found one verse that caused me not to become a Muslim. After a long pause, most Muslims will ask, "Which verse?" I then quote Surat Al-Nisaa (The Women) verse 157, which says that Jesus was not crucified. I explain how the Bible clearly says that Jesus physically died on a cross, was buried, God raised him from the dead, and that there is no forgiveness of sins except by grace through faith in Jesus' death and resurrection.
